What Happens in the Temple
"Hundreds of thousands of faithful members participate in the unselfish service we call 'temple work,' which has no motive other than love and service for our fellowmen, living and dead."
—Elder Dallin H. Oaks
Baptism for the Dead and Confirmations
Baptism is the first step in becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Baptisms for the dead are baptisms preformed in Temples on behalf of deceased persons. These baptisms, along with confirmations, give the person they are preformed on behalf of the opportunity to accept or reject this ordinance and with it membership in the Church.
Initiatory
In this ordinance, participants receive special blessings that will follow them throughout their mortal lives and beyond. They also prepare them to receive their endowment.
Endowment
During the endowment, participants watch a video outlining events from our pre-earth life, the creation of the world, the fall of Adam and Eve and their life outside of the Garden of Eden. As a part of the endowment ceremony, participants make certain covenants with God.
Sealing
There are two different types of sealing ceremonies. The first type is a temple marriage which binds a man and a woman together forever. The second is what is called a sealing to parents. In this ordinance, people who are born out side of a temple marriage are sealed to their parents to become a family unit which lasts forever.
